Youths given one-year suspended jail sentence for throwing dirty water at Songkran revellers

April 15, 2017  By Thai PBS Reporters

Chonburi provincial court yesterday sentenced five youths one-year suspended jail sentence after finding them guilty of throwing dirty water at passing Songkran revellers and vehicles on a new bridge along the seashore in Chonburi.

They were also fined 5,000 baht each for the offences.

Earlier on Wednesday a group of rowdy youths was seen in a video clip throwing plastic bags containing dirty water which included cooking oil and filthy water at passers-by and passing vehicles. The inappropriate way of celebrating the water festival went viral on the social media, and prompted local police to investigate.

The police later rounded up 10 youths for questionings and five were charged with harassments and causing disturbance to the other people in the court.

At the court hearing yesterday, the court sentenced them to 15 days in prison after they were found guilty and imposed a 5,000 baht fine each.

However after they pleaded guilty, the court then gave them a suspended one-year jail sentence to allow them to perform 12 hours of public service and report to probation officers every three months.
