The resignation of Thaksin Shinawatra as an economic adviser to Cambodia and subsequent return of Thailand's ambassador to Phnom Penh have boosted hopes of an easing of diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Seven people died from dengue fever last week, bringing the nationwide toll from the disease to 70 deaths out of some 60,000 dengue fever patients this year, Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said Monday.

Two of the dengue fever deaths last week were in Krabi while Chiang Rai, Phetchabun, Lop Buri, Chachoengsao, and Nakhon Si Thammarat reported one death each...................

The rail link will charge promotional fares until the end of the year on its city and express lines. It expects to serve up to 50,000 passengers a day.

The service has been operating on a trial basis since June 1, attracting about 17,000 people a day travelling for free.

Thai AirAsia returned to profitability in the second quarter with a surprisingly strong performance given Thailand's political turbulence in May and June.

The affiliate of Southeast Asia's largest low-cost carrier Air Asia, posted a net profit of 49 million baht in the quarter compared with a loss of 80 million a year earlier.

Consumer complaints about the price of bottled drinking water have flooded the Internal Trade Department's hotline recently, prompting tougher curbs on outlets selling the product.Consumers said they have been forced to pay unreasonably high prices for bottled water, especially at food courts, department stores, supermarkets, movie theatres and exhibition venues.

A 500cc bottle of drinking water can go for between 15 and 20 baht a bottle at some venues, while convenience stores sell it for 6-10 baht.

The Pathumwan District Court has ordered the release of Australian Conor David Purcell, a red shirt supporter, after he pleaded guilty to violating emergency rule during the political unrest.

The court initially sentenced him to 45 days in jail for violating the emergency law by taking part in the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protests from March to May in Bangkok which ended in a military crackdown and arson attacks.

The Appeal Court has ordered the extradition of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout to the United States on terrorism charges, prompting an angry response from Moscow.

Mr Bout has been fighting extradition since his March 2008 arrest in a Bangkok sting operation by US agents posing as Colombian rebels.

Thai Airways International has begun talks with Airbus on the possibility of acquiring up to 30 of the next-generation A350XWB jets and six additional A380 superjumbos.  THAI president Piyasvasti Amranand and Jean-Jacques Boissin, Airbus's Southeast Asia sales director, separately confirmed the discussions. If a sale materialises, it may represent the largest aircraft order in the 50-year history of the flag carrier.
